- Increases RELEASE of STORED GLUCOSE = increase
glycogenolysis (dose of insulin should be increased) |
| NOREPINEPHRINE Adverse Effects | - Similar to epinephrine
- Causes BLANCHING & SLOUGHING off of skin
along an injected vein due to vasoconstriction
- Causes extravasation leading to TISSUE NECROSIS |
| DOPAMINE Adverse Effects | - the same effect as SYMPATHETIC STIMULATION
- Alpha 1 overstimulation = vasocontriction
DIGITAL NECROSIS
- NAUSEA, HYPERTENSION, ARRHYTHMIAS (short-lived) |
| ALPHA 1 AGONISTS TOXIC EFFECT: | • Local (intranasal)
• Rhinitis medica mentosa (rebound congestion); used
for nmt 3 days
• Systemic
• Exacerbation of hypertension
• Urinary retention à BPH
• Tolerance; used for nmt 5 days |
