Alloys are used as they are stronger than pure metal, and have better qualities for everyday use, like copper- conducting electricity

When the rock is heated, it expands and contracts when it cools, this can cause cracks to form if this action is repeated over and over again.
When water gets into rocks what happe ns?
Water expands as it freezes, forcing the cracks to expand. This is called freeze-thaw action
What happens when plant roots get into the cracks of rocks?
The roots cause the cracks to get wider and then the rock eventually breaks in half.
What happens during erosion?
Pieces of rock get broken up by weathering when they get moved away. This is called erosion.
What is abrasion?
Abrasion is when the rock segments knock against each other and wear down, due to the friction.

The particles are loosely organised, and are fairly strong.
