Planes of movement?
Sagittal - left and right Frontal - front and back Transverse - top and bottom
How are the planes of movement determined?
From the anatomical position
What are the axes of movement?
- all joint movement is one segment rotating about another - axes body of movement are rotational or angular movements of body segments
What are the axes of movement?
Anterior-posterior axis: anterior to posterior or front to back transverse axis: left to right horizontally longitudinal axis: top to bottom
What is a lever?
Rigid bars that rotate around an axis or fulcrum
What in the body is the rigid bar?
Bone or ligament segment
What is the load?
The resistance - its an external force (gravity, contact or collision)
What is the 1st class lever?
The fulcrum/axis is between the load and the force
What is the 2nd class lever?
The load is between the fulcrum and the force
What is the 3rd class lever?
The force is applied between the fulcrum and the load
What is the torque?
Torque is the degree to which a force tends to rotate an object about a specified fulcrum
What is a mechanical advantage?
Mechanical advantage is defined as the ratio of the force moment arm (distance from the fulcrum) divided by the resistance moment arm (distance from the fulcrum)
How do you calculate acceleration?
A= velocity2- velocity1/ time
What is linear kinematics?
The motion of the body
What is distance?
The length of path which a body covers during motion
What is displacement?
The change in position of a body during motion
What is scalar and a vector?
Scalar - direction only eg distance Vector - direction and magnitude eg displacement
How do you calculate acceleration?
A= velocity2- velocity1/ time
What is the angular motion?
Where all parts of the body move through the same angle
What is angular distance?
The sum of all the angular changes of a rotating body between its initial and final positions
How to calculate angular velocity?
Equal to angular displacement divided by the change in time
How to calculate angular acceleration?
Change in angular velocity divided by change in the time
