Light microscope
Uses light and lenses to create magnified image of a substance
Electron microscope
Uses electrons to create magnified image of a substance
Which has a higher resolution and magnification? light or electron microscope?
Electron microscope has a higher resolution and magnification
Steps of preparing slides for plant cells?
1. add a drop of water to slide 2. cut up onion into layers, use tweezers to remove EPIDERMAL TISSUE from bottom of the layers. 3.Add to slide, use tweezers. 4. add iodine solution. 5. place cover slip. cover slip should be upright then use tweezers to slowly/carefully tilt cover slip till it covers the onion layers.
Steps of preparing slides for animal cells?
1. add a drop of water to slide. 2. use cotton swab to swab the inside of your mouth. 3. put cotton swab on the water droplets and mix water and lovely cheek cells together. 4. add methylene blue solution. 5. add cover slip. cover slip should be upright then use tweezers to slowly/carefully tilt cover slip till it covers the onion layers.
Why do you need to use iodine solution/methylene blue?
Iodine solution/methylene blue are dye that are used to stain the cells. this makes them more visible under the microscope.
Steps to looking at your slide under a microscope?
1. clip slide to stage. 2. select lower powered objective lens (lowest magnification). 3. use coarse adjustment knob lol to move stage up. 4. look down eyepiece. use coarse adjustment knob again to make stage down till image is in rough focus. 5. use fine adjustment knob to get a clear image of slide. 6. if a greater magnification is needed, change to higher powered objective lens and refocus.
How do you label a drawing of your observations?
Sharp pencil. title above drawing. magnification below drawing. use straight lines that do not cross over each other. drawing must take up half of the space given.
Magnification equation?
Magnification: image size ÷ real size
What is a cell cycle?
When body cells divide to produce new cells
What is mitosis?
A stage in the cell cycle where the cells divide
What is mitosis used for
To grow or replace damages cells
What is growth and dna replication of cell cycle
Before duplicating, a cell has to grow and increase the amount of subcellular structures. then it will duplicate dna. dna is copied and forms x-shaped chromosomes. they have "arms" of chromosomes that are exact duplicates of each other
What are subcellular structures?
Things like nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes in the cell uno what i mean.
What is the actual process of mitosis?
Once dna is copied, chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell. they are pulled apart by cell fibres. membranes form around each of the sets of chromosomes. nucleus is divided. cytoplasm and cell membrane divide.
What is binary fission?
When prokaryotic cells split in two.
1st step of binary fission
Circular DNA strands and plasmids replicate
2nd step of binary fission
Cell gets bigger. circular dna strands move to opposite ends of the cell.
4th step of binary fission
Cytoplasm divides. two daughter cells are produced. each daughter cell has copy of circular dna. one can have a variable number of plasmid copies.
What are daughter cells?
Exact copies of the parent cell.
How fast do bacteria cells
Very quickly in the right conditions. if not in the right conditions, cells stop dividing and begin to die
How can you find out how many times a cell is divided?
Find the mean amount of time it takes for bacteria to divide.
