EPSP (Excitatory Postsynaptic Potentials) is generated by the following:

– Stimulation causes release of neurotransmitters (glutamate, ACh) causing transient increase of Na+ ion permeability – Influx of Na+ causes weak depolarization – Increased stimulated excitatory neurons causes increase in excitatory neurotransmitter release (action potential)
